In this second episode of "Life in Shaoxing" we will talk about night life in this charming chinese town. At night, Shaoxing shows a new face. Flashy lights and colors shine over the streets, hiding the dust and rubbish. You feel like
discovering this city again. Disco Christmas atmosphere !
Just like our cities back home, Shoaxing offers a choice of bars, restaurants and clubs to go out but let's talk about the other unusual activities you can do here.
First, let's go to City Sqare, a huge place in the city center which becomes a big dance floor at night. Hundreds of shaoxing people go during the week-end and holidays (when the weather was still warm) to dance or do some
outdoor fitness. Dancing groups and fitness classes are organised all around this place. As you can see, they've got the rythm !
And when they don't dance, they sing ! Number 1 enternainment in China is Karaoke aka KTV ! These places offer private rooms to sing all night long. You can also get a drink and food, and some people stay there to sleep. KTV
rooms usually have the best sofas. In Shaoxing there are KTV every 100 meters, not kidding...
Finally, when they don't dance and don't sing, they eat ! But as most of the restaurants close quite early (in China you have diner around 5pm, just like you guys in Belfast :p), the rendez-vous is the food night market. Opened from 9pm till morning, it's located at a roundabout (good for the Drive Thru option). Although, it looks dirty, this place may have the best seafood in town. You just choose raw fish, meat, vegetables and seafood, and the chef will cook it on a barbecue for you. Delicious food, yummy ! I recommend the garlic oysters and the squid skewers. The bravest can even try testicles and brain. Bon appétit !
